Summer Vacations - 2006!

Waco, Texas

With the boys pretty much out of the house, Cindy and Roger have a little time to themselves, and some time to be on the road this summer.  While it would be impossible to top last year's Alaskan adventure, our goal is to spend some time traveling.  This summer's meanderings will include trips to Waco, Granbury, Van Buren, AR, Las Vegas, NV, Dallas, San Antonio, and Madison, Wisconsin.  The Dallas, San Antonio and Madison trips coincide with performances by the Madison Scouts as they strive to become the 2006 DCI World Champions!

As we complete various legs of the journey, we'll post some favorite pictures.  You know us, where there's a photo-op, there are cameras!  Hope you enjoy the shots!

Our first trip took us to Waco and Granbury over the Memorial Day Weekend.  In Waco, we stayed at the "Let's Go Country" bed and breakfast.  This delightful and restful stop is owned by innkeepers John and Marcia Boggs.  They certainly know how to give folks space, while providing a beautiful venue for rest and relaxation.  There were many photo opportunities, as you will see below.

The first couple of shots are of an old barn at Let's Go Country.  Built several decades ago, it is still in use today!

We were thoroughly entertained by "Barney" the cat, who followed us all over the ranch at LGC.  We presumed this little lady lived on the property, and belonged to the innkeepers.  We soon learned that she had shown up on the property just the day before we visited.  This was one friendly cat, who we would have taken with us, if only we could!

And what would a trip be without one of R's "self portraits"?

C got this beautiful sunset shot from our private balcony at LGC.  We really liked that spot, and hope to stay there again soon!

Of course, while we were in the Waco area, we had to hit a few of the local attractions.  We had lunch at Buzzard Billy's (home of the Voodoo Tuna!), and visited the suspension bridge and Dr Pepper museum.  Here are a few photos from those stops.

From Waco, we took the back roads to Granbury.  We fell for the driving instructions on Mapquest, and would up taking a ten mile detour, on some lovely gravel roads.  The detour did lead us by an old bridge.

The bridge, which, thankfully, is no longer in service was built in 1892, apparently with Carnegie steel.  You could read the Carnegie name in several of the beams on the bridge.
