         Summer Vacations - 2006!

               Las Vegas, Nevada

Our final day in Las Vegas was, more or less, a day without cameras.  Knowing we were on a tight schedule, we took the monorail to the Sahara for brunch.  We then whisked back to the Hilton, catching the rail again, just minutes before our passes expired.  We did a little shopping at the Manilow store at the Hilton, and waited around for the shuttle to take us to the airport.

It was an interesting ride to the airport.  We had booked a reservation with Gray Line, since we had such a good trip with them at the beginning.  This time our driver was in a little more of a hurry, and anxious to pick up more fares on the way back.  We saw several parking lots, back alleys, and close calls as we sped north, then south through and around Las Vegas.  C was white-knuckled the whole way.  Needless to say, there was no tip for this driver.  Finally, we arrived at the American Airlines desk of the airport.  Of all the interesting things we saw on the way to the airport, this one stands out.  More dollars than sense, perhaps?

Despite what we'd heard, getting through the airport was very easy (other than C's queasy stomach).  We were at our gate nearly two hours before flight time, and settled in to reflect on our trip.  This time we were on an MD-80, sitting in front of the wing.  This allowed R a much better view (which he likes), and the ability to take a few photos from the air.  Here's one he liked.

Later in the evening, after it got dark, we were able to see several fireworks shows from the air.  It was amazing!  What looks so large from the ground looked tiny from the air.  Quite a contrast to the rest of our trip.  We arrived at D/FW Airport shortly after 11:00 p.m., and made it home around midnight.  The next day was geared toward recuperation from our whirlwind trip to Las Vegas!

And this is just because I like to draw things in Photoshop!
