Summer Vacations - 2006!

Dallas, Texas

After eight long weeks of waiting to see Ben, we finally caught up with him in Dallas just before the Scouts 20th show of the season.   They were performing at Lake Highland High School's 30th Annual Festival of Drums and Bugles.  The folks at LHHS know how to run an operation (of course they've had years of practice).  The show was superb, and should be attending by anyone in this region who loves drum corps.  Tickets for next year's event are already sale.

Here are before and after photos of Ben.  The left photo is from "Ben's Haircut Saga", and was taken the day before he left for Madison (May 26th).  The photo on the right is during rehearsal in Dallas on July 20th.  As you can see, he's a little leaner, more tan, and a lot blonder.  He doesn't wear a hat all the time as he should, and has bleached out the natural way.  He was looking and feeling very good on the days we saw him.

When we first arrived, we didn't even recognize him.  Of course there were over a hundred tall, tan, lanky kids with musical instruments in their paws.  Not all of them were in yellow shorts (Ben's section color), but it was still a tough call.  Finally, he called to us, and asked how long we'd been there.  Although he was reluctant to do so because he was more than a little sweaty, he finally gave Mom a hug.  Needless to say, both of them were happy campers!  (Hey, he's wearing a hat this time!)

We also caught up with Ben for some photos in his Scouts uniform.  This was taken behind the bleachers after their performance.  They were waiting to perform a number with the Phantom Regiment after scores were announced.

While this one with Pa and Ma was by the busses, before he went to change clothes.  One of Ben's buddies from Haltom took the photo for us.

And speaking of buddies, here's Ben with Sean and Dustin after the show.  Before the Scouts performed, we could hear them yell, "Go Jeebo!".  Jeebo heard it too, and blamed us.  Sean and Dustin are also members of The Pride of Haltom.

We had a great time in Dallas, and stayed near the stadium after the show.  We got to see our kid, and hear the awesome sounds of the Madison Scouts (not to mention the other corps who performed).  The slideshow below are corps photos from Dallas and San Antonio that aren't shown elsewhere on these pages.

The day after the Dallas show, we followed the corps to Seguin and San Antonio.  To continue, press one of the links below.
