Summer Vacations - 2006!

San Antonio, Texas

We survived Dallas and San Antonio, and have returned home.  I'm continuing to work on pages as best I can.

Ben and the Scouts head off the field of the Alamodome after the Saturday evening performance.

Prior to performing in San Antonio, the Scouts found themselves rehearsing hard in Seguin, Texas, which is about forty miles northwest of town.  C and R caught up with Ben and the corps at Matador Stadium, on the campus of Seguin High School.  Here's a look at the entire corps on the field in Seguin.  (I believe Ben is near the right-side thirty-three yard line.)

We watched the Scouts rehearse for over an hour before they had a dinner break.  When we got a chance to talk to Ben, we asked what he might need, since there was a Wal-Mart nearby.  His list was short.  Wright Silver Polish for his horn, mechanical pencils, and a belt.  Oh, and if not too much trouble, there was a Dairy Queen he'd had to look at all afternoon.  Corps members weren't allowed to leave the campus, so he asked if we could find it in our hearts to bring him back a Blizzard.  We were able to, and he was VERY appreciative!  (Ben's at the back on the horn trio.)

The next night was the big show.  Madison had not been ranked in the top eight, so they had to qualify in the afternoon session.  We were able to see several of the corps perform before the Scouts.  When rankings were announced, the Scouts had placed second, and were eligible to perform in the evening session.  Here's a shot of the corps during the afternoon performance.

(Sorry it's not too clear - we were limited on what kind of camera equipment we could take into the Alamodome.)

Since this is the San Antonio page, I should post some shots of the city.  We really didn't take all that many, so I'm "seeding" the page with a few I took when we were here for the State high school competition back in the fall of 2004.  Here's the most popular attraction - The Alamo.

Below are a couple of styalized shots from the River Walk.

And a couple of the Alamodome.  The one on the left was taken on this trip.  The one above was taken from atop the Tower of the Americas, on the other side of highway 37.

And finally, at least for tonight, here's a photo of Ben and Nicole, who were waiting patiently for Mom and Dad to get out of their way.

Now you have to make a decision.  To continue, press one of the links below.  Or, you can just stay here.  Whatever.
