Decatur, Texas

Continuing a tradition that started, well, last year, we traveled the weekend Ben left for Madison. We really could not decide what we wanted to do, so we headed northwest to the Wise County town of Decatur. Neither of us had been that way before, so it seemed like a good thing to do. Weather hampered our fun and photo opportunities. Here are a few pics from what is a quaint place to visit. |

Decatur is the county seat for Wise County, Texas. This courthouse was built in 1895, and is still in use today. It cost $110,000 to build at the time, and the debt was not retired for 50 years. |

| While in Decatur, we stayed at the Abbercromby Penthouse Suites, in the Summersby Suite. It was not our best B&B experience, but the room was comfortable and spacious. We never saw the Innkeeper, and there was no breakfast, so the "experience" of a B&B was lacking. Judging from the guest book in the room, there's not a lot of traffic at this inn. | ||

We walked the
square both Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Most of the
shops were closed for the Memorial Day holiday, or closed early. R
did find a couple of things, including an early 1900's Kodak Brownie No. 2 in "The Fleur de Lis" Antique Treasures store. It makes a great addition to his
antique camera collection.

Just off the square, we found a Coke mural designed to look like one that would have been painted many years ago. It was quite an undertaking, and really neat to see. |

| We headed out of Decatur on Sunday morning, and drove through various parts of Wise County before heading home. Rain still made it difficult to see a lot, but all-in-all it was an entertaining trip. Here are a few more photographs from the journey. | ||

And, of course, the gratuitous shot of R's shadow - it follows him everywhere!
